Post Highlights
This first post of my blog serves as an introduction to this blog, how I plan to structure it, and a couple of updates on the status of my website in recent weeks.
For all new posts, this section will serve as a quick highlight/summary of the post, and may or may not include a headline image. If you're reading this from the
blog home page, click on the button below to read the full post, otherwise scroll on down!
Welcome to my new blog! This section of my website will be dedicated to posts on a wide variety of subjects, ranging from analysis of real-time weather in the United States
and globally, to discussion on past, ongoing and future research, to other topics of interest not necessarily related to weather that come to mind as a graduate student.
This post serves as an introduction to my blog format, plan for how future posts will be structured, and an update on my website over the last few months. Please note that
as I coded this blog interface from scratch, there may be bugs I failed to notice - any bug reports are greatly appreciated!
Posts will generally be split into three main categories: weather, analysis and non-weather:
-
Weather: Posts on real-time weather will be made in this category. These will have a United States focus but with occasional posts of high-impact weather of interest globally. These will be further split into Public posts, intended for easy digestibility, and Analysis posts, with more sophisticated meteorological analysis.
-
Analysis: Posts on in-depth analysis topics of interest will be made in this category. This can include an analysis of a past major weather event, a phenomenon/topic of interest, or research of interest whether from a past paper or ongoing/potential future research.
-
Non-Weather: Posts on non-weather related topics will be made in this category. This can range from anything such as website updates, to photography and other interesting subjects from the perspective of a graduate student.
As I'm deep into my Ph.D. research in the present, blog posts will not be made on a frequent basis, nor can I commit to posting every week or a certain number of posts per month.
If time allows, I hope to post forecast analyses leading up to and during major weather events in the United States, with occasional highlights of interesting weather
phenomena elsewhere in the world. As my research focuses on Arctic meteorology, don't be surprised to see a focus on Tropopause Polar Vortices (TPVs) and their associated
impacts!
I've been gradually completing previously unfinished pages on my website, while adding new pages when spare time allowed. These new pages are as follows:
-
Research: This page displays a brief overview of my past and current research, and their accompanying highlights.
-
Links: This page displays many links I use on a routine basis for weather observations/analyses and forecasts. If
there's a page missing that you think should be on here please let me know!
-
Code: This page displays links to numerous Python sample code for basic Python syntax/usage and data analysis and visualization.
A few sample scripts are currently up, and more will be added with time.
-
Ensemble Sensitivity Analysis: ESA is a useful ensemble-based tool for forecasting. This new page
displays real-time GEFS and EPS based ESA for the Northeast U.S.!
Additionally, a new PolarWx website update is in the works for this summer; stay tuned for more information!
