Tomer BurgPhD

Welcome!

I am a former Ph.D. student at the University of Oklahoma, having worked with Dr. Steven Cavallo on researching Arctic Meteorology. I previously completed my B.S. and M.S. degrees at the University at Albany, SUNY. This website shows some of my research, as well as additional projects and real-time data visualizations. I graduated with my Ph.D. in early 2024, and currently work for the Weather Prediction Center.

What are Tropopause Polar Vortices?

TPVs are small-scale vortices along the tropopause, most commonly found in the Arctic, that are also some of the longest-lived phenomena in the troposphere. TPVs can exit the Arctic on occasion, and can amplify or initiate various midlatitude weather phenomena.
